Uchouten Japanese Restaurant @ Chevron Renaissance

Uchouten Japanese Restaurant

I’ve already done a brief little review of Uchouten in Surfers Paradise, but this restaurant really deserves another dazzling review. James and I are shameless regulars at this place now and delightfully, we’ve been treated as such. The staff are amazing and on more than one occasion, we’ve been given freebies in the form of dessert (pudding on one occasion and tiramisu on another) and cute little ceramic teacups.

The food at Uchouten is gorgeous. I am a sucker for their chicken karaage because they do it so well. In fact, they do it better than any other Japanese place I’ve been to on the Gold Coast. The chicken portions are incredibly generous and they always come out perfectly cooked, juicy and succulent, never dry or tough. Consider me impressed!

Just recently, I’ve found my new favourite thing on the menu, and that’s the fish sauce katsu don. Sitting atop a steaming bed of rice and smothered in Japanese mayonnaise, the large deep-fried fish pieces are wonderfully crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. At just $9.80, who can resist such a large bowl of heaven?

Their menu offers a large range of Japanese dishes. Really, you’re spoilt for choice at this restaurant. It might take some time for you to decide on what you want because there’s just so many different things to choose from! The menu also includes a large selection of sushi. Although a little pricey compared to ‘fast food’ franchises like Sushi Train, you are guaranteed good, personal service and careful preparation of your food. I love it when a restaurant is prepared to go the extra mile to make you smile.

Their bento box sets are a wonderful place to start if you have no idea what to order. They come in a range of prices, depending on the combination of dishes. The portions are fairly big, so you might like to give their bento boxes a go if you arrive at the restaurant quite hungry. Each box comes with a serving of miso soup.

Surfers Paradise is home to a fair few Japanese eateries. Uchouten ranks as one of my top favourites. They consistently dish out good quality Japanese food and the friendly service goes a long way! If you ever decide to pop in for a bite, be sure to say hello to the lovely people who work there!
