8 Bit Brothers; A Performance @ The Esplanade

On the 29th of August, the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay hosted a live music show at the Concourse featuring local band 8 Bit Brothers. Being a performance arts venue, the Esplanade is known for its generosity in featuring live acts by budding, semi-professional and professional artists from around the world. In fact, every evening, the Esplanade’s indoor Concourse area comes alive with a series of acts spanning dance, music and theatre. These performances are completely free for the general public to enjoy.

With the 8 Bit Brothers, we knew we were in for a unique treat. According to the ComeSingapore travel guide, these four boys formed the group due to their “shared nostalgia for old school Japanese video games and their common interests in music”. As a person who enjoys video game music once in awhile and picking out subtle nuances in various tracks, I can certainly appreciate what these guys do.

On the whole, the 8 Bit Brothers did a great job of bringing back memories of the nineties, whereby I’d bring my own old school, handheld Game Boy Color console everywhere with me. Those were the days. This catchy little track demonstrates the kind of music they come up with. Of course, such music might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but James and I certainly enjoyed listening to them.

It was nice of the Esplanade to provide such an opportunity for the group to take the stage and let their fun chiptunes wander the wide space of the Concourse area. I would recommend anyone visiting Singapore or living in Singapore to check out other free live performances that happen regularly at the Esplanade. You might find yourself impressed.
